Two studies carried out in 2012 by researchers at the University of Guelph and University of Houston tested the surfaces of a combined 63 remote controls and found that remote controls store around more than eight times the amount of bacteria found on the average public toilet surface.
Time to clean that remote and make it germ free!
What you need:
- Small screw driver
- Cotton tips
- Rubbing alcohol
What to do:
- 1. Remove the batteries from your remote.
- 2. Remove any screws that are holding your remote control together.
- 3. Pop the top of the remote control from the bottom.
- 4. Remove the rubber keypad from the plastic and clean both with rubbing alcohol and cotton tips.
- 5. Clean the surface of the circuit board inside the remote control with cotton tips and rubbing alcohol.
- 6. Dry all components of the remote control.
- 7. Reassemble the remote control.
Your remote control is now clean and germ free for your family to use. You should clean your remote control every 2-3 months to keep your family healthy.
If a family member has been sick recently you should think about cleaning your remote control more often to stop the spread of nasty germs.
